A near-infrared study of IRAS-selected T Tauri stars in Chamaeleon II
نویسنده
چکیده
We use near-infrared photometry of objects detected by IRAS to confirm four new T Tauri stars in Chamaeleon II. Observations of these sources generally agree with the T Tauri signatures of locus in the near-infrared color-color diagram, midinfrared spectral index, and IRAS far-infrared colors. Infrared properties of these stars are similar to optically selected T Tauri stars in Cha II, but are on average more luminous and are located at the north-east boundary of star formation in the cloud. We compare results of infrared color methods used to detect T Tauri stars in Cha II with results of other methods based on optical and X-ray emission.

Low mass T Tauri and young brown dwarf candidates in the Chamaeleon II dark cloud found by DENIS
We define a sample designed to select low-mass T Tauri stars and young brown dwarfs using DENIS data in the Chamaeleon II molecular cloud. We use a star count method to construct an extinction map of the Chamaeleon II cloud. We select our low-mass T Tauri star and young brown dwarf candidates by their strong infrared color excess in the I − J/J − Ks color-color dereddened diagram. We retain onl...
متن کاملA ROSAT pointed observation of the Chamaeleon II dark cloud
A deep 13.5 ksec ROSAT PSPC pointed observation in the Chamaeleon II (Cha II) cloud is reported. 40 X-ray sources are detected of which 14 can be identified with previously known young stellar objects (YSOs), namely IRAS sources, classical T Tauri stars and weak T Tauri stars. From spectroscopic followup observations, four new weak T Tauri candidates have been found. The X-ray sources are mainl...
متن کاملA new Classical T Tauri object at the sub-stellar boundary in Chamaeleon II
We have obtained lowand medium-resolution optical spectra of 20 candidate young low-mass stars and brown dwarfs in the nearby Chamaeleon II dark cloud, using the Magellan Baade telescope. We analyze these data in conjunction with near-infrared photometry from the 2-Micron All Sky Survey. We find that one target, [VCE2001] C41, exhibits broad Hα emission as well as a variety of forbidden emissio...
متن کاملMultiplicity of X-Ray Selected T Tauri Stars in Chamaeleon
We report on a multiplicity survey of a sample of X-ray selected young stars in the Chamaeleon association. We used speckle-interferometry and direct imaging to find companions in the separation range 0.13 to 6. After correction for chance alignment with background stars, we find a multiplicity (number of binaries or multiples divided by number of systems) of (14.0 ± 4.3)% and a companion star ...
متن کاملDisk Evolution in the Three Nearby Star-forming Regions of Taurus, Chamaeleon, and Ophiuchus
We analyze samples of Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) spectra of T Tauri stars in the Ophiuchus, Taurus, and Chamaeleon I star-forming regions, whose median ages lie in the < 1 to 2 Myr range. The median mid-infrared spectra of objects in these three regions are similar in shape, suggesting, on average, similar disk structures. When normalized to the same stellar luminosity, the medians fol...
